The estimate is average daily usage multiplied by supplier lead time, plus the safety stock you entered. It is a planning threshold, not a purchase order.

Reorder point formula

Reorder point = average daily demand × supplier lead time in days + safety stock. The units for daily demand and safety stock must refer to the same item and unit of measure.

For average demand of 8 units per day, a 6-day lead time and 20 units of safety stock, the estimated reorder point is 68 units.

Limits of the estimate

This basic formula assumes average demand and supplier lead time are useful planning inputs. It does not model demand variability, supplier delays, order quantities, open purchase orders or seasonality.

Treat the result as a stock threshold for review, not an automatic purchase instruction. Revisit the inputs when demand or supplier performance changes.

What is the reorder point formula?

A common basic formula is average daily usage multiplied by lead time, plus safety stock.

Does this create a purchase order automatically?

No. This calculator only estimates a planning threshold. Purchasing decisions still depend on stock, open orders, supplier constraints and business judgment.
