Work with defined monthly accounting periods

Lynka creates monthly accounting periods with a fiscal year, period number, start date and end date. Each period has an open or closed state.

Transactions such as invoices and journals can be assigned to the accounting period that contains their accounting date.

Check the period before you close it

Period Close Readiness checks the selected dates and highlights accounting exceptions that should be reviewed before the month is locked.

Its current metrics include period coverage, unposted journals, unbalanced posted journals and historical foreign-exchange exceptions. The report returns whether the period is ready based on those checks.

Close the period when Finance is satisfied with the books

A closed period records when it was closed and who closed it.

The close is also written to a dedicated period-close audit log with previous and new status, actor and time.

Stop ordinary changes to transactions inside a closed period

Lynka’s period controls check transaction dates for journals, supplier bills and invoices and reject modifications when the matching accounting period is closed.

Posted journal entries also have a direct period-lock check, so closed-period protection is enforced at the accounting layer rather than being only a warning in the interface.

Keep reopening or status changes visible

When a period is closed or reopened, Lynka records the status change in the period-close history.

That gives Finance a history of who changed the period state instead of letting close controls be switched with no trace.

Use period boundaries consistently across financial reporting

Profit & Loss, Cash Flow and other date-range reports use accounting dates across selected periods, while as-of reports such as Balance Sheet and Trial Balance use their own as-of logic.

The defined period structure helps Finance make closing decisions without forcing every report to use the same date behavior.

What Lynka means by closing a period

The feature is closer to accounting lock dates in products such as Xero or QuickBooks than to merely saving a month filter. Closing changes what transactions are allowed to be modified or posted in that period.

It does not claim a full enterprise consolidation close, checklist engine or statutory filing workflow. It is a control around the Lynka ledger and its source transactions.

Check the close before you lock the month

Lynka has a Period Close Readiness report and finance close metrics that review the period before closure. Bank-reconciliation readiness is also available as a finance report for unresolved matching and exception work.

The goal is to find incomplete accounting work while the period is still open, not after the team has already locked it and discovered something missing.

A close and reopen decision should leave evidence

Period close actions have an audit log with the previous status, new status, person, time and justification. That gives Finance a record when a period is reopened or its close state changes.

The closed-period guard then prevents journals from being posted into a locked period until the accounting period is deliberately reopened through the permitted process.

That makes the feature useful for a small finance team that wants a clear boundary between work still being corrected and books that have already been closed.

A month-end close should change more than a label. Lynka treats the period state as an accounting control, so closing the period protects the transactions and postings inside its dates.
